About Us
Midcoast Humane once existed as two separate, neighboring shelters, each with long histories of saving animals. Coastal Humane Society and Lincoln County Animal Shelter officially merged to become one organization in 2016, and, in 2018 came together under one name: Midcoast Humane.
Midcoast Humane is one of Maine’s largest and most impactful animal welfare organizations, dedicated to creating a better world for pets and the people who love them. With sheltering facilities in Brunswick and Edgecomb, we care for more than 4,000 animals each year—providing safety, compassion, and second chances for those in need.
We proudly serve 39 towns across Maine’s Midcoast, from Falmouth to Somerville, through our municipal contracts, and we welcome adopters from across the state and throughout New England.
Our mission goes beyond sheltering. Every animal that comes through our doors receives exceptional veterinary care, including spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and medical treatment, as well as the love and comfort they deserve while waiting for new, loving homes.
To help support our lifesaving work, we also operate the Midcoast Humane Thrift Shop in scenic Boothbay Harbor, where every purchase helps give animals a brighter future.
