PWA Paddle

Saturday 7/25, 10 AM - Clarks Cove & Lower Damariscotta River - Advisory: River currents. This paddle is on a stretch of the Damariscotta above the Fort Island narrows. The paddle will take us from Clarks Cove to Peter’s Island, Plummer Point and to Hodgsons Island where we will stop to stretch and explore. Directions: From Damariscotta at the Baptist Church, head down Route 129 about 3 miles and bear right at the fork staying on 129. Go about 4 miles turning  right onto Clarks Cove Road just past the golf course. Travel about a mile until after climbing a short pitch and taking a sharp left turn watching for a large Federal style house on your right. Just beyond, turn right to the launch site. The trip duration is 3 hours; no public rest rooms; picnic lunch (bring your own) on Hodgsons Island.
                                                                        AND
Saturday 7/25, 10 AM - Dyer Long Pond, Jefferson - Directions:  From Newcastle take Route 215 North past the intersection of Atkins & Weeks Roads. Continue on Route 215 for a short distance to Hinks Road; veer right. Follow Hinks to the carry-in launch site.  Paddle duration 2 hours; no public rest rooms

The paddles are free and the public is welcome to accompany PWA on these trips. Unless noted, most paddles commence at 10 AM on Saturday and last approximately 2 to 3 hours. Additional paddles may be scheduled during the season. By popular demand, we are now offering many ocean paddles and lake/stream paddles on the same days for those who are not quite ready for ocean paddles or would prefer the alternative.  Paddlers must provide their own kayak or canoe, wear a personal flotation device (life jacket) and provide appropriate safety gear including water. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All paddlers participating in PWA trips are responsible for their own safety and each participant should determine in advance if conditions are suitable for their skill level. All paddlers must have a written release on file with PWA or complete one at the time of the paddle. The releases may be obtained at the PWA Paddlers web site or from the paddle leader. All paddles will be listed at the PWA website: www.pemaquidwatershed.org. For weather cancellation information, Peter Lawrence may be contacted at 563-7663, 563-3104 or paddlers@pemaquidwatershed.org. Peter Lawrence and Diane Gilman (dgilman @bbrlt.org) will lead the ocean trips while Jean Smith (jeansmith500@gmail.com) will lead the lakes and streams.
