  • About

Knox-Lincoln SWCD is a tax-exempt organization guided by a volunteer board of local landowners. Our mission is to provide assistance in the conservation of land & water resources for local landusers through proactive efforts, actions, and education. Throughout the year we offer K-12 and adult education programs: K-6 Poster Contest, Conservation Fair for elementary and middle-schoolers, and summer ecology camps; as well as pond construction & maintenance, apple tree pruning, composting, and sustainable landscaping programs including invasive plants. Our conservation technicians assist local residents with invasive plant ID and management, erosion control issues including shoreline buffer design, natural resource assessments, permit by rule and NRPA preparation, and nutrient management plans.

Annual highlights include our Spring Plant Sale & Fair at Union Fairgrounds (weekend before Mothers Day), Trout Stocking Sale (spring), Fall Bulb & Plant Sale (August ordering), Conservation Farm Tour (Saturday after Labor Day), and our Annual Awards Banquet (first Wednesday of November) with all the pie you can eat!

We partner on projects with conservation districts across the state, the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, local land trusts and watershed associations, nature centers, and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. Knox-Lincoln SWCD is tax-exempt and a member of the non-profit Maine Association of Conservation Districts.
